Dr. Sam Rizk presents on the understanding and creation of facial beauty through plastic surgery. Over the years, refinement of the human body resulted in ideal formulas, ratios, angles and proportions to strive for. Though these mathematical structures of the face may yield good results, it will not be extraordinary. Every face is different, therefore requires an unique approach. It is important to tailor each facial plastic surgery for the patient. For a rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Sam Rizk pays attention to each intricate detail of the surgery to create the perfect nose for the patient. Any mishap can lead to lesser results or even deformity. In the case of a facelift procedure, Dr. Sam Rizk points out the importance of using the correct skin tension and precise vector pull.

Dr. Sam Rizk was recently featured in Cosmetic Town discussing nasal bridge augmentation. Nasal bridge augmentation–or dorsal augmentation– can add dimension and give greater definition to a flat nose. Nasal bridge augmentation is a highly requested cosmetic nose modification, particularly among those of African-American and Asian descent. Although the procedure is closely associated with certain ethnicities, it is not population specific. Nasal bridge augmentation can be employed as a reconstructive or corrective measure following an accident or a surgical complication (that is, an undesired result from a previous rhinoplasty).
New York’s Dr. Sam Rizk, double board-certified in both Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology (head and neck surgery), is considered one of the nation’s experts on nasal bridge augmentation. When surgically enhancing the nasal bridge, Dr. Rizk uses two main techniques, taking into consideration the quality and elasticity of the skin:
● Cartilage grafts. Cartilage is taken from other areas (the ears, for example) and transplanted to the bridge to give it structure and form. Dr. Rizk recommends the cartilage grafting for those with thin skin.
● Implants. Most commonly made of silicone, implants can be inserted to create a more proportioned nasal profile. Implants are permanent and suitable for those with thick skin.
For those who are not ready to undergo surgery, the nasal bridge can be built up and shaped using dermal fillers.
Each technique has its advantages and disadvantages. In general, Dr. Rizk prefers to use the cartilage method. Because the patient’s own cartilage tissue is used, the chance of infection is reduced. However, cartilage can shrink and change shape over time. Implants, on the other hand, retain their shape, but carry a higher risk of infection. As the skin naturally ages, the implants may look less natural-looking. Although minimally-invasive injectables have a high appeal, they only offer a temporary cosmetic solution. To maintain results, the bridge will need to be retouched about twice a year.
A pioneer in endoscopic 3-D rhinoplasty and advanced cartilage sculpting techniques, Dr. Rizk has been ranked as a top rhinoplasty specialist by both his peers and Castle Connolly, a prestigious healthcare research company. If you would like more height and definition in the bridge of the nose, contact Dr. Rizk for a consultation. To read more about Dr. Rizk’s feature in Cosmetic Town here.
